Day Center

The Day Center provides a safe day shelter for the community we serve to take care of their most essential needs.

Our Center is open Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm, homeless adults can get showers, sandwiches, coffee, and other snacks. Last sign in for showers is at 1:30 pm. We see an average of 35 people in our Day Center each day. A limited number of guests can have their laundry done when staffing permits.

Our Clothing Closet consists of donated clothing and linens and is open by a volunteer Mondays at 9 am. We allow guests to use our phones for the purpose of seeking employment and establishing services with other agencies.

Our Homeless Advocate works with guests to help them connect with resources, such as bus passes to get to work and appointments, guidance obtaining ID cards and birth certificates and food.

Please note some services may be unavailable or adapted due to the pandemic.

As of March 2020, we no longer provided the services of showers, laundry, and phone use to respect social distancing and promote the safety of staff and guests. Hygiene kits are distributed to clients every Monday. Clothing is prepackaged based on size and distributed on a monthly basis. Gift cards to a local chain laundromat are distributed on a quarterly basis.

How St. Columba serves those in need:

*Names changed for privacy reasons

Sam was a veteran who had served his country proudly for many years. His time in the service caused him to experience many things that were difficult for him to process and he was eventually diagnosed with PTSD. It was challenging for him to hold down a job and, without an income, he eventually lost his apartment. In his time of need, he came to our Day Center to get something to eat, take a shower and connect with other services. We were able to work with him for many months, connect him to agencies that specifically serve veterans and help him receive treatment for his PTSD. This allowed him to return to the workforce and overcome his homelessness.
