A 6-month transitional housing program for single, homeless, adult males and females provides clients with the opportunity to get back on their feet.
We have 4 fully furnished houses located in Norfolk that house 4 persons each, while they transition from homelessness to independent living. Clients coming into the program are provided with food, a 30-day bus pass, linens, and toiletries. Our case manager oversees the houses and works with clients on goals relating to employment, education, substance abuse, mental illness, life skills, budgeting, housekeeping, physical health, and community involvement. Finally, residents are guided as they seek and establish their own apartments.
Interested individuals must contact the Housing Crisis Hotline at 757-587-4202 to be assessed for housing.
How St. Columba’s Transitional Housing helps those facing homelessness:

Tonya was a teenager when she started using drugs. As an adult, her addiction made it difficult for her to maintain a job or stable housing. When she entered our Next Step Transitional Housing Program, she was ready to get her life back. While in our program, she got clean, got a job and reunited with her family. When she graduated, she moved into her own apartment, the very first home she could call her own. Nine years later, she happened to be in the neighborhood and stopped by our office. She was so excited to share how well she was doing: she was still working with the same company and she got married the previous year. She wanted to say thank you for helping her and believing in her.
