Funded through private foundation monies, this program is specifically for homeless individuals in the SVHC service area who are in need of assistance paying for prescription medications.
Clients must be referred by an agency that is able to verify homelessness and complete the necessary paperwork to make the referral. We partner with Peoples Pharmacy to provide prescription assistance to those who are experiencing homelessness.
Clients in need of this assistance must speak with their case manager to be referred. Case managers who have questions about these services should email Alicia at st.columba@aol.com for more information. All referrals are done by email and usually processed the same day when received Monday through Friday 8 am to 3 pm.
How St. Columba helps those facing health conditions:

Brenda was working as an office manager and going to school part time. She had goals and was steadily making progress towards achieving them. One day, she suffered a brain aneurysm that caused a downward spiral. She lost her job, became homeless and had to face other health conditions. After surgery and a long recovery she was on the mend, but due to a lack of income and insurance, she was unable to pay for her prescription medications to maintain her health. Her case manager referred her to our Prescription Program for homeless individuals in Norfolk to help ease the financial burden. We were able to cover the cost of her blood pressure medication, eliminating her headaches and helping her gain control over her health. She was able to start looking for a new job and take placement tests to go back to school and start working towards her goals again.
